The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q178685 SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft Project 98 from an Administrative Installation
Point on a server, you may receive the following error message
Setup could not find the file "\\<server>\<share>\<directory Project98 setup is located>\OS\MSAPPS\PROOF\MSSP232.DLL
followed by the error message:
Setup could not find the file "\\<server>\<share>\<directory Project98 setup is located>\OS\MSAPPS\PROOF\MSSP2_EN.LEX
When you click the Ignore button, Setup will continue and Project will be
able to run, but the Spelling tool will not work.
CAUSE
During the Administrative installation of Microsoft Project 98, you chose
either Local or User's choice for the shared tools location. The error
messages described in the SYMPTOMS section may occur when installing
Project from that Administrative Installation Point. The setup program is
looking for the spelling checker files in the wrong location.
WORKAROUND
To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
- On the Workstation on which you installed Microsoft Project 98 and on
which you received the errors messages, remove the Project
Workstation installation. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click
Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon, click the
Install/Uninstall tab, select Microsoft Project 98, and click
the Add/Remove button.
- When prompted, click the Remove All button.
- On the Microsoft Project 98 Administrative Installation point on the
server, copy the PROOF folder (this will copy the files noted in the
error message) from the following folder
to:
- Rerun the Workstation install. It will now be able to find the files
listed in the error messages.
NOTE: The default directories created during the Administrative
installation are \MSAPPS and \MSOffice. An additional MSAPPS folder is
located under the folder \MSOffice\OS.
NOTE: After performing an Administrative installation, permissions for the installation point on the server should be set to Read Only. If users have Write permissions to the installation point, changes may be made that will impact all users of that intallation point.
