XL98: Comments May Be Obscured by Freeze Panes (178522)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q178522

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, if a worksheet cell containing a comment is located above a frozen pane, the comment may appear partially obscured or truncated at the border of the frozen pane.

CAUSE

Comments in Excel 98 are on sheet objects, and behave like other objects on the worksheet when you scroll the document. In the frozen pane, Excel only displays the portion of the comment that would normally appear in that part of the worksheet if the pane were not frozen.

WORKAROUND

To prevent this behavior, click Unfreeze Panes on the Window menu, or select a row underneath the comment before clicking the Freeze Panes command.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of Excel 98.
