XL98: Cannot CONTROL or COMMAND Select Items in List Box (178496)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q178496 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, you cannot use the COMMAND key or
the CONTROL key to select nonadjacent items in a list box that has its
Selection Type set to Extend.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because of the way in which Microsoft Excel 98
Macintosh Edition uses the COMMAND and CONTROL keys:
- If you hold down the COMMAND key and select an item in a list box, the
item is selected. Any previously selected items are deselected.
- If you hold down the CONTROL key and select an item in a list box, the
shortcut menu for the list box appears.
RESOLUTION
There is no workaround for this problem in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh
Edition.
Note that you can still use the SHIFT key to select multiple, adjacent
items in a list box that has its Selection Type set to Extend.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem
and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.
