FP98: Error Creating Disk-Based Web if Upper Level Folder Doesn't Exist (178476)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to create a disk-based web in a subfolder where the upper level folder does not already exist, you will receive the following error:
Cannot create the folder, "c:\<folder>\<subfolder>".
where <folder> is the folder that does not already exist and subfolder is the content root.

CAUSE

Microsoft FrontPage 98 will only create the top level folder, it will not generate multiple folder levels when creating a disk-based web.

RESOLUTION

Create the upper level folder in Windows Explorer before using FrontPage Explorer to create the root web.

To Create a Subfolder

  1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, and click Windows Explorer.
  2. Select the drive on which you want to create your disk-based web.
  3. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder.
  4. Type a name for the new folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
