XL98: Type 2 Error Copying Worksheet That Contains a Chart (178427)

If you copy a worksheet in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition with the
Move or Copy command, you may receive the following error message:
The application "Microsoft Excel" has unexpectedly quit, because
an error of type 2 occurred.
You should save your work in other open applications and
restart the computer.
and Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition shuts down.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when both of the following conditions are true:
- The worksheet contains one or more embedded charts.
-and-
- The workbook that contains the worksheet is protected with a Password To
Open.
NOTE: The Move or Copy command is available from the Edit menu, or from the
shortcut menu obtained by control-clicking a sheet tab. This problem only
occurs when you copy the worksheet; if you move the worksheet without
creating a copy, the problem does not occur.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.
Method 1: Remove the Password from the Workbook- On the File menu, click Save As. In the Save As dialog box, click
Options.
- Delete any password in the Password To Open box, and then click OK.
- Click Save.
Method 2: Remove the Chart Before Copying
Remove the chart from the worksheet before you copy it. Once you have
copied the worksheet, re-create the chart on each worksheet.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem
and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.
