PRJ98: Project Stops Responding or Missing Characters Saving MPX (178396)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you save a project in the MPX 4.0 (*.mpx) file format, only the first two currency symbols are saved, or you may receive one of the following error messages.

In Windows 95

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
When you click Details, you receive the following message:
WINPROJ caused an invalid page fault in module WINPROJ.EXE at 0137:3006c3ae.

In Windows NT

An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.

WINPROJ.EXE
Exception: access violation (0xc0000005), Address: 0x3006c3ae.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the currency symbol is more than two characters long.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, change the currency symbol to be two characters or less by following these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the View tab.
  2. Under Currency, change the Symbol to be two characters or less.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Save the file in MPX format again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
