SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, if you save to a SQL (Structured
Query Language) database, you may receive the following error message:
There is an ODBC error accessing the
database.
The following error was returned by the ODBC driver:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid column name
'DURATIONVARIANCE'.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for
Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
To temporarily resolve this
problem in Project 98 non-SR-1, follow these steps:
- Obtain the updated Pj8od8.dll file as described in the
"Instructions for Downloading" section of this article.
- Copy Pj8od8.dll to the same directory where the Winproj.exe
file is located.
NOTE: The default location is C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office.
When prompted to overwrite the existing file named
Pj8od8.dll, click Yes.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most
current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file
was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to
prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the
versions of Microsoft Project listed at the beginning of this
article.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for
Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
