XL97: Regression Err: "Cannot Add Chart to a Shared Workbook " (178243)

When you use the Regression Data Analysis Tool, which is included in the
Analysis ToolPak, to create a chart that contains residual plot values, you
may receive the following error message:
Regression - Cannot add chart to a shared workbook.
Continue creating output table?
CAUSE
This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
- You are running Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows SR-1 or SR-2.
-and- - You select the Residual Plots check box in the Regression dialog box to create a chart that contains residual plot values.
-and- - You click New Worksheet Ply or Output Range under Output in the
Regression dialog box to return the results to the same source
workbook.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, click New Workbook under Output in the
Regression dialog box to return the results to a new workbook. You can copy
the results back to the source worksheet if you want.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Excel 2000.
