PI 2.0: Sounds on E-Mail Postcards Do Not Play in Netscape Browser (178201)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Picture It! 2.0

This article was previously published under Q178201

SYMPTOMS

When you view an e-mail postcard that was made by using Picture It! you may not hear sounds that were added to the postcard when it was made.

If you make an e-mail postcard and send it to yourself you will hear the sounds when you test it as you make the postcard, but you may not hear them when you view the postcard on the same computer.

CAUSE

The way Picture It! formats the <BGSOUND> tag in HTML, is not correct for Netscape products.

RESOLUTION

This problem has been reported on Netscape 3.01 Gold and Netscape Communicator browsers.

NOTE: Sounds on postcards also won't play if you chose the option for No Sound in your browser.

Sounds on postcards do play in Microsoft Internet Explorer and other browsers.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Picture It!, version 2.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available

MORE INFORMATION

The Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) for an e-mail postcard with a sound attached will resemble the example below. The sound in this case is from a file called chrsmas2.mid.
  <HTML>

  <HEAD>
  <TITLE>Microsoft Picture It! E-Mail Postcard</TITLE>
  <BGSOUND SRC = "chrsmas2.mid">
  </HEAD>

If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can view the HTML source code for a postcard by clicking Source, on the View menu. The code is different for the front and back of the card. Other browsers have similar commands that allow you to read the source code.
