PRJ98: Remaining Work Improperly Updated with Workgroup Messaging (178180)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q178180 SYMPTOMS
When you use the workgroup features of Microsoft Project 98, the value for
Remaining Work of tasks already in progress may not be updated correctly.
If you update the duration of a task that is in progress, although you see
a new value of Remaining Work in the Microsoft Project file, that
information is not sent in the workgroup message. Remaining Duration is not
recalculated and remains what it was when you last submitted the task
update.
CAUSE
Microsoft Project does not send Remaining Work values when updating tasks
with Workgroup messaging either through e-mail or the Web.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, Resources should provide both Actual Work and
Remaining Work on all ongoing tasks when they update their tasks. They
should also verify that the sum of Remaining Work and Actual Work equals
the total work anticipated for that task.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above.
