WD98: Default Folder Not Selected When Saving or Opening File (178062)

When you open or save a document or when you save a new template, the
selected folder may not be the default folder specified for the file type on the
File Locations tab in the Preferences dialog box (Click Preferences on the Tools
menu).
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Word selects the folder based on settings found in
the Documents section of the General Controls control panel. This control panel
allows you to set one of the following options:
- Folder that is set by the application.
If you select this option, Word uses the folder you selected on the File
Locations tab in the Preferences dialog box.
- Last folder used in the application.
If you select this option, the setting you specified on the File Locations
tab in the Preferences dialog box is ignored.
- Documents folder.
If you select this option, the setting you specified on the File Locations
tab in the Preferences dialog box is ignored.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior and have Word select the default folder location
you specified on the File Locations tab, follow these steps:
- On the Apple menu, point to Control Panels and then click General Controls.
- Under Documents, click the "Folder that is set by the application" option.
- Close the control panel.
