OFF97: Some Components Are Not Updated After Running SR-1 Patch (177870)

When you run the Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 1 (SR-1) Patch after
you add additional Office components in a maintenance mode installation,
the Microsoft Office 97 SR-1 Patch may display a dialog box that indicates
that none of the Office 97 programs can be updated. After that no error
message appears.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if all of the following conditions are true:
- You install Microsoft Office 97 without performing a complete
installation of Office (that is, you install only some components).
-and-
- You install the Microsoft Office 97 SR-1 Patch.
-and-
- You run the Setup program in maintenance mode and add additional
components.
-and-
- You attempt to run the Microsoft Office 97 SR-1 Patch to update the
additional components
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, follow these steps:
- On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- In the list of installed programs, click either "Microsoft
Office 97, Professional Edition" or "Microsoft Office 97,
Standard Edition," whichever is available. Click Add/Remove.
- When you are prompted, click Remove All. If you are given an
option to remove shared components, click Keep.
Microsoft Office 97 is then removed. After Setup is finished,
restart your computer.
- On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click Install.
- Select all the options that you want. When the installation is
finished, restart your computer.
- Install the Microsoft Office 97 SR-1 Patch.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
