SYMPTOMS

When you are using a 3Com Tokenlink Velocity Plug and Play (3c319) network adapter, it may be detected as an IBM Token Ring (all types) network adapter.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when the 3Com Tokenlink Velocity network adapter is in ISA/EISA (non-Plug and Play) mode.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use this network adapter in Plug and Play mode only. For information about how to set this network adapter to Plug and Play mode, please contact 3Com Corporation.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior occurs regardless of whether the network adapter is in 3Com mode or IBM mode. Even if the 3Com Tokenlink Velocity network adapter is detected correctly, it may not work properly in ISA/EISA mode. Manually installing the 3c319 driver does not work.

The IBM Token Ring (all types) network adapter driver uses the following resources that cannot be modified:
   Resource Value
   ------------------------
   I/O port address A240
   Interrupt IRQ9
