The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q177841 SYMPTOMS
If you sort cells that contain hyperlinks, the hyperlinks may not be sorted
correctly or the hyperlinks may no longer function.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the following conditions are true:
- You copy a hyperlink in a cell and paste it to a range of cells or
you use the Fill command (on the Edit menu) to fill a range of cells
with a hyperlink.
NOTE: The range in which you are pasting must be more than one cell.
-and-
- You sort the range of cells with the pasted or filled links so that
the cells are sorted by using values in another column.
NOTE: This problem does not occur when you use the HYPERLINK worksheet
function.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use the HYPERLINK function to create the hyperlink
in the cell. After you do this, you can copy the cell that contains the
HYPERLINK function and paste it in range of cells. The hyperlink functions
correctly after you sort it.
You can also work around this problem by copying the hyperlink and pasting
it one cell at a time.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the
beginning of this article.
