WD98: Embedded Word 97 ActiveX Controls Become Pictures (177742)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q177742 SYMPTOMS
When you open a Word 97 for Windows document in Word 98 Macintosh Edition,
ActiveX controls (for example a button or a check box) will be converted to
pictures. These pictures will not have ActiveX functionality.
If you save the document from Word 98 Macintosh Edition, the controls are
converted permanently. That is, once you save the document, you cannot
recover the ActiveX functionality by re-opening the document in Word 97 for
Windows.
CAUSE
By design, Word 98 Macintosh Edition does not support ActiveX controls.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, do either of the following:
- Keep and maintain a backup copy of the original Word 97 for Windows
document before saving it in Word 98 Macintosh Edition.
- In Word 97 for Windows, replace the picture of the ActiveX control with
the ActiveX control that was lost.
