Chaos: Black or Gray Screen When You Start the Game (177496)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Lost World: Jurassic Park Chaos Island, the startup screen may appear black or gray.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the video card you are using does not support DirectX in full hardware acceleration mode.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following troubleshooting steps:
  1. Reduce the graphics hardware acceleration. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click System.
    3. Click the Performance tab, and then click Graphics.
    4. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider until it is one notch to the right of None (the Basic acceleration setting).
    5. Click OK, and then click OK.
    6. Click Yes to restart your computer.
  2. If the issue is not resolved, turn off Direct3D Hardware Acceleration. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Insert the Lost World: Jurassic Park Chaos Island CD-ROM into the the CD-ROM drive.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. In the Open box, type the following line, and then press ENTER

      <CD-ROM drive>\setup\directx\dxsetup.exe

      where <CD-ROM drive> is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.
    4. Click the Direct3D Hardware Acceleration Enabled check box to clear it, and then click OK.
  3. If the issue continues, contact the video card manufacturer for information about obtaining updated display drivers.
