WD98: Double-Clicking Link Does Not Activate Microsoft Excel (177451)

In Microsoft Word, when you double-click a Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh
Edition linked object while Excel is open in the background, nothing
happens.
CAUSE
There is a problem with the OLE timing when you double-click to activate
Excel.
WORKAROUND
Use one of the following methods to work around this problem.
Method 1: Close Microsoft Excel- In Microsoft Excel, on the File menu, click Quit.
- Double-click the linked object in Microsoft Word.
Method 2: Vary the Speed of the Double-Click
If you slow down your regular double-click speed, Excel may finally become
active.
NOTE: This seems to be more of a problem with slower computers, such as a
PowerMac 8100/100 with 40 megabytes (MB) of RAM.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem
and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.
