This article was previously published under Q177303 SYMPTOMS
The Details Port Settings button of the Printer Property folder displays an
unnecessary dialog box when the port is a network port. For example, if the
port name in the Details page is \\printer_server\printer and you click the
Port Settings button, a dialog box appears with the following message:
There is nothing to configure for this port.
CAUSE
The Printer Property folder calls the Win32 API ConfigurePort in order to
display configuration information. When Spoolss.dll resolves the
ConfigurePort call, it calls the local print provider first. The net print
provider is called after the local provider. The local provider's
ConfigurePort displays the dialog box.
