WD98: Wizards Do Not Show Previews in File New Dialog Boxes (177230)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q177230

SYMPTOMS

When you click on a Wizard Template in the New dialog box (click New on the File menu), Microsoft Word does not display a preview of that file.

CAUSE

Wizard previews are large and would cause a performance problem for Word.

MORE INFORMATION

Generally, if you click a Template file in the New dialog box, you see a small preview of that file under Preview. For example, in the New dialog box, if you click the Letters and Faxes tab and then click Professional Letter, a small preview of that document appears.

You probably won't be able to read the preview, and you cannot zoom it. However, the preview does show you the layout of the document or template prior to your opening it.

Templates with No Previews

You cannot preview the Blank Document Template found on the General tab of the New dialog box. The Blank Document Template is the default template for new Word Documents. Its name is Normal and is found in the following default location:

Macintosh HD:Microsoft Office 98:Templates

You also cannot preview a non-Wizard template called More Wizards and Templates. This template provides you with information on how to obtain additional templates and wizards from either your Word program or from the Microsoft Word Web Site. This template is found on the Other Documents tab of the New dialog box.
