ACC97: Undocked/Closed Toolbars No Longer Appear in Custom Application (177106)

SYMPTOMS

If you create a custom application that includes custom or built-in toolbars, and in the Customize box, you do not change the Docking status from Allow Any to Can't Change, users of your application will not be able to reopen your toolbars if the toolbars are undocked and closed.

CAUSE

You are not able to customize toolbar settings in the run-time environment. Therefore the options for viewing or changing toolbar properties are not available.

RESOLUTION

You must open your custom application in the retail version of Microsoft Access, and then reopen the toolbars and redistribute the database.

To prevent this behavior from happening in other custom applications that you create, set the Docking status for your toolbars to Can't Move so that your users cannot undock the toolbars in your application.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior


  1. In Microsoft Access 97, open the sample database, Northwind.mdb.
  2. On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click to display the Web toolbar if it is not already displayed.
  3. Close the database and using the Microsoft Office 97 Developer Edition Tools Setup wizard, create a custom application that includes the Northwind.mdb database.
  4. In the Setup wizard, create a shortcut that will open the database, and make sure you select the Run-Time check box so that the custom application will open as a run-time application.
  5. Only add the necessary additional information needed to successfully create your disk images.
  6. After you have created the disk images, run the custom setup program to install your custom application.
  7. On the Start menu, click Programs, and open your custom application.
  8. Undock the Web toolbar and close it.
  9. Close your custom application, and then reopen it.

    Note that the Web toolbar is no longer available and you are not able to reopen it.
