This article was previously published under Q177100 SYMPTOMS
When you record a macro that inserts a graphic file as an Object (on the
Insert menu, click Object, and then click From File) and then play back the
macro, you receive the following error message:
The server application, source file, or item cannot be found.
Make sure the application is properly installed, and that it
has not been deleted, moved, or renamed.
followed by:
Run-time error '4198': Command failed.
CAUSE
You are inserting an object for which there is no registered class.
WORKAROUND
While recording your macro, use Insert File instead of using Insert Object:
- On the Insert menu, click File.
- Navigate to the file you want to insert.
- Select the file, and then click OK.
