PRJ98: Cannot Use Flag11-Flag20 Fields in Bar Styles Dialog Box (176935)

SYMPTOMS

In the Bar Styles dialog box in Microsoft Project 98, the Flag11 through Flag20 fields for Gantt bars are not available in the Show For list.

To locate the Bar Styles dialog box, click Bar Styles on the Format menu.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem and make unique bar styles, you can combine multiple flag fields. For example, you can create a bar style with a Show For value of "Normal,Flag1," "Normal,Flag1,Flag2," and "Normal,Flag1,Flag3" (without the quotation marks). Note that each of these examples provides a unique bar style. An additional advantage to this method is that you will be able to create more than 40 bar styles.

For Example, to display a bar using both the Flag1 and Flag2 fields, follow these steps:

  1. On the Format menu, click Bar Styles.
  2. Scroll to a blank row.
  3. In the blank Name cell, type Test1.
  4. In the Show For cell on the same row type Normal,Flag1,Flag2.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Create two tasks.
  7. On the Insert menu, click Column.
  8. In the Field Name drop down, click Flag1. Click OK.
  9. On the Insert menu, click Column.
  10. In the Field Name drop down, click Flag2. Click OK.
  11. For the first task, change Flag1 and Flag2 to Yes.
The bar will change to display the bar style you created in steps 1 - 4.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
