OLEXP: Opened News Messages May Appear as Unread in the Message List (176903)

After you open a news message you downloaded in Offline mode, the
message's entry in the message list may not be marked as read.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, click a different newsgroup in the list of
folders, and then click the newsgroup you want to view.
NOTE: To view the Folder List pane, click Layout on the View menu, and
then click the Folder List check box to select it.
