DirectX 5: Invalid Page Fault on HP Pavilion Computer (176341)

SYMPTOMS

When you install DirectX 5 on certain models of Hewlett-Packard (HP) Pavilion computers, you may experience the following problems:
  • When you start GTE Quick Internet Connect, you receive the following error messages:
    BROWSER.EXE caused an invalid page fault in module BROWSER.EXE.

    -and-

    BROWSER.EXE caused an invalid page fault in module OC30.DLL.
  • When you start the HP System Wizard (a diagnostic program included with HP Pavilion computers) you may receive the following error message:
    SW caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll
This problem has been reported to occur with the following models of HP computer:
  • HP Pavilion 3100
  • HP Pavilion 3265
  • HP Pavilion 8160
  • HP Pavilion 8180
  • HP Pavilion 8240
