OL97: WordMail Starts Even If Turned Off in Outlook (176336)

SYMPTOMS

When starting Microsoft Outlook 97, Microsoft Word 97 (WordMail) may start as your e-mail editor, even thought you have not selected that option in Outlook.

CAUSE

WordMail was selected in an earlier installation of Microsoft Exchange.

RESOLUTION

Run Microsoft Exchange and click to clear the WordMail option. Then clear the WordMail option in Outlook again.

Run Microsoft Exchange and Clear the WordMail Option

  1. Quit Outlook.
  2. Click the Start button, point to Find, and click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type Exchng32.exe and click Find Now.
  4. Double-click the Exchng32.exe file in the results window, to start Microsoft Exchange.
  5. On the Compose menu, click WordMail Options.
  6. Click to clear "Enable Word as e-mail editor" and click Close.
  7. Quit Microsoft Exchange.

Clear the WordMail Option in Outlook

  1. Start Outlook.
  2. If WordMail starts again, on the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. On the E-mail tab, click to clear, "Use Microsoft Word as the e-mail editor."
