PRJ98: Web Workgroup Shows Old and New Resource Name (176300)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q176300

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, if you change a resource name and you are using Web workgroup messaging, you may see both the old resource name and the new resource name in the resource web workgroup interface.

CAUSE

When the original resource name is changed, the resource web workgroup interface displays the new name as a second resource instead of replacing the existing resource. Resource names generated in a webgroup message are text-based only. Therefore, if you change a resource's name (such as if you misspelled the name) when you send a new TeamStatus message, you end up with a new person in the password list. The old resource name is not replaced. Once this happens, there is no continuity between the old resources task list and the new resources task list other than the task name and remaining work.

WORKAROUND

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. On the View menu, click Task Usage.
  2. Click on a column title, and on the Insert menu, click Column.
  3. In the Column Definition dialog box, under Field Name, click Confirmed, and then click OK.
  4. In the Confirmed field, change the Yes to No.
  5. On the Tools menu, point to Workgroup, and then click TeamAssign.
  6. Click Send to send the message.
NOTE: The task will be assigned to the current resource, but you will lose actual and remaining Work. This will have to be resubmitted by the resource.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it become available.
