The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q176288

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, you are unable to save the following workgroup customization settings as default settings for new project files:

  • Ask For Completed Work
  • Track Overtime Work
  • Team Members Can Decline Tasks

CAUSE

There is no option in the Customize Workgroup dialog box that allows you to save the settings listed in the "Symptoms" section as default setting for new projects.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, create a template that contains the custom workgroup settings for new projects. To save a file as a template, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Customize, and then click Workgroup.
  2. Change the settings you want to use for new Projects and then click OK.
  3. On the File menu, click Save As.
  4. In Save As Type list, select Template.
  5. In the File Name box, type a name for the template. Click Save.
You can base any new projects on this template when you want to use the workgroup message settings stored in this file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
