XL98: Selecting HLNK in Paste Special Does Nothing (175941)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q175941 SYMPTOMS
When you click Paste Special on the Edit menu in Microsoft Excel 98
Macintosh Edition, the value "HLNK" may appear in the list of formats. If
you click Paste, click HLNK, and click OK, nothing is pasted.
NOTE: If you click Paste Link, Microsoft Excel may create a link to the
original data. This behavior may occur only when you copy the original data
from another program, such as Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition.
CAUSE
When you copy text or a picture in an Office Macintosh Edition program,
such as Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition or Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh
Edition, the program may copy the information to the Clipboard in HLNK
format. This is true even though this format cannot be pasted in Microsoft
Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, do not use the HLNK format when you use the Paste
Special command to paste information in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh
Edition.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
