OL97: Unable to Configure Internet Mail (175928)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Outlook 97, you may receive the following error message when attempting to add or configure the Internet E-mail service:
"The action could not be completed. The action could not be completed."

CAUSE

The Internet E-Mail Service was not properly installed.

RESOLUTION

Follow these steps to download and install the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch Final Release:
  1. Rename the MINET32.DLL file, (to MINET32.BAK for example).
  2. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/9798/outlimep.aspx
  3. Click to select the "Internet Mail Enhancement Patch."
  4. Click to download the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch Final Release.
  5. When you are prompted to Open or Save to Disk, Click Open It.
  6. Finish installing the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch Final Release, disconnect from the Internet, and then restart your computer.
