XL98: Worksheet Menu Bar Appears Twice When Customizing Menus (175896)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q175896

SYMPTOMS

When you view the Customize dialog box (click Customize on the Tools menu), the Worksheet Menu Bar check box is not selected. When you click to select the check box, the Worksheet Menu Bar appears twice: once as a dimmed menu bar at the top of the screen and again as a menu bar immediately below the first one. When you close the Customize dialog box, the second menu bar disappears.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you attempt to modify or customize the built-in worksheet menu bar.

WORKAROUND

To customize the main menu bar, display the Worksheet Menu Bar from the Customize dialog box. After you make changes to the Worksheet Menu Bar and close the Customize dialog box, Microsoft Excel updates the main menu bar.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

MORE INFORMATION

The built-in worksheet menu bar is not available when you enter the Customize dialog box. This behavior is by design because the main worksheet menu bar is also part of the Macintosh operating system menu bar.
