The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q175854

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, the Options tab of the Customize dialog box (Click Customize on the Tools menu) does not contain an option for displaying shortcut keys in ScreenTips.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition and Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition each include an option to display shortcut keys in ScreenTips. To make this option available in these programs, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize. Click the Options tab.
  2. Click to select "Show shortcut keys in ScreenTips." Then, click OK.
When you move the mouse cursor over a tool on a toolbar, the ScreenTip that appears displays both the name of the tool and the shortcut key that activates the tool. For example, if you move the pointer over the Save tool on the Standard toolbar, the ScreenTip that appears displays the following text:

Save (Cmd+S)

This option is not available in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition. For example, if you move the pointer over the Save tool, the ScreenTip displays the following text:

Save

NOTE: If you click a menu that contains a menu item that is functionally identical to a tool, the menu usually displays the shortcut key for that menu item. For example, if you click the File menu, the Save menu item indicates that you can use COMMAND+S to save a file.
