SUMMARY

When someone within your local or wide-area network sends you a shortcut to a file attached to an e-mail message in Microsoft Outlook 97, it may be useful to find its original location. Although you cannot determine this while in the open message, you can learn its properties if you save the file to your Desktop.

MORE INFORMATION

To determine the path to the shortcut, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the attachment in the open e-mail message and click Save As on the shortcut menu.
  2. Select Desktop as the location, and then click Save.
  3. Minimize Outlook so you can see the Windows Desktop.
  4. Right-click the shortcut on your Desktop, and on the shortcut menu, click Properties.
  5. Click the Shortcut tab. The path is displayed in the Target box.
