MORE INFORMATION

Warning Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.

To cause the "Welcome - Microsoft Internet Explorer" screen to appear, follow these steps in Internet Explorer:
  1. On the View menu, click Internet Options.
  2. On the Advanced tab, click the "Show welcome message each time I log on" check box to select it, and then click OK.
  3. Quit Internet Explorer, and then restart your computer.
Note If the "Show welcome message each time I log on" check box is not available on the Advanced tab, follow these steps (these steps do not add the "Show welcome message each time I log on" check box to the Advanced tab):
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK:

    welcome.exe

  3. To cause the "Welcome - Microsoft Internet Explorer" screen to appear when you start your computer, verify that the Show this next time you log in check box is selected on the Welcome screen.
  4. Click the X in the upper right corner to close the window or to select an option from the available selections.
To add the Show welcome message each time I log on check box to the Advanced tab, use Registry Editor to follow these steps:

Verify that the following values exist under the appropriate registry key:
