OLEXP: No Warning if Newsgroup Name Changed in Outlook Express (175230)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook Express 4.0 for Windows NT 4.0
- Microsoft Outlook Express 4.0 for Windows 95
This article was previously published under Q175230 SYMPTOMS
After you create newsgroups in Outlook Express, you can change the name of
the newsgroup account and news server. When you do this, you receive no
warning message that you are about to change the newsgroup subscription.
Therefore, when you refresh the list of newsgroups, the list is empty and
you receive a message stating that the server could not be found.
RESOLUTION
Verify the name of the news server and news account. To do so, follow
these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
- Click the News tab, click the newsgroup you want to verify, and then
click Properties.
- Verify the name of the news account listed on the General tab.
- Click the Server tab, and then verify the name of the news server.
NOTE: You can change the name of the news account and still download
newsgroups as long as the name of the news server is the original
newsgroup to which you subscribed.
STATUS
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here
in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
