SUMMARY

When you insert or consolidate files in one Microsoft Project master file, you may not be able to easily determine the source file from which the task originated. This article describes how to use the Project field to list the source file name of the inserted project.

In Microsoft Project 98/2000, inserting subprojects into a master project replaces the consolidated project feature of earlier versions of Microsoft Project.

To insert the Project field so that you can identify the source file name of the inserted project, use the method appropriate for your version of Microsoft Project.

Versions 4.0, 4.1, 4.1a, 98, and 2000

  1. Select a column title.

    NOTE: Microsoft Project will insert a column to the left of this column.
  2. On the Insert menu, click Insert Column.
  3. In the list of field names, click Project.
  4. Click OK.

Versions 1.0 1.1, 3.0a, and 3.0

  1. On the Table menu, click Define Tables.
  2. Insert a blank line in the Field Names list.
  3. In the Field Name column, type Project. Click OK.
  4. Click Apply.
