This article was previously published under Q172871 SYMPTOMS
While you are reading news messages in Outlook Express, you may
receive the following message in the preview pane even though the
preview pane is already enabled:
Press <Space> to display the selected message. You can also choose
to automatically show messages in the preview pane from the Options
command.
If you press SPACEBAR, the message reappears. If you double-click the
news message to open it, you receive the following error message in
the message window:
There was an error opening the message.
CAUSE
There is not enough free space on your hard disk to open the news
message.
RESOLUTION
Increase the amount of free space on your hard disk by using one or
more of the following methods:
- Remove any unnecessary files from the hard disk.
- Empty the Recycle Bin.
- Delete the Internet Explorer 4.0 Setup folder. This folder contains
a copy of the Setup files so you can reinstall Internet Explorer
4.0 from the hard disk instead downloading another copy from the
Microsoft Web site. Deleting this folder does not affect the
performance of Internet Explorer 4.0.
For information about how to delete a folder, click Start, click Help,
click the Index tab, type "folders" (without quotation marks), and then
double-click the "Deleting" topic.
