The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office 97 for Windows
- Microsoft Word 97 for Windows
- Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
- Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows
- Microsoft Access 97
This article was previously published under Q172866 SYMPTOMS
If you perform a local installation of any of the Microsoft Office for
Windows 95, version 7.0 programs to a network drive, the Office 97 Upgrade
Wizard does not remove the older programs.
For example, if drive G is a network drive, and you install Office 7.0 in
the Msoffice folder on drive G, the Office 97 Setup program does not remove
the files in the following folders on drive G:
Msoffice\Powerpnt
Msoffice\Excel
Msoffice\Word
Msoffice\Access
Note that you don't need these files after you upgrade to Office 97.
CAUSE
The Office 97 Upgrade Wizard does not remove files on a network drive. This
is a safety precaution to prevent you from accidentally deleting files that
may be required by another user's installation of Office.
RESOLUTION
Use the Office 7.0, Microsoft PowerPoint 7.0, Microsoft Word 7.0, Microsoft
Excel 7.0, or Microsoft Access 7.0 Setup program to remove the version 7.0
files before you install Office 97.
