XL97: Size of a Picture Is Larger in Microsoft Excel 97 (172485)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q172485 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel 97, when you open a workbook that contains a picture
object, the picture object may be slightly larger in size than in earlier
version of Microsoft Excel.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when you do the following:
- You create a workbook in Microsoft Excel version 7.0.
-and-
- You insert a picture in the workbook.
-and-
- You save the workbook.
-and-
- You open the workbook in Microsoft Excel 97.
This behavior is caused by a design change in Microsoft Excel 97. The
increase in size is due to a border that is placed around the picture. In
Microsoft Excel 7.0, when you format a picture with a border, Microsoft
Excel places the border on top of the picture. In Microsoft Excel 97, when
you format a picture with a border, Microsoft Excel 97 places the border
outside the picture. This causes the picture to be slightly larger in size.
NOTE: When you insert a picture, Microsoft Excel automatically places a
border around it.
This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Excel 2000.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, use either of the following methods.
Method 1: Remove the Border in Microsoft Excel 97
To remove the border, follow these steps:
- Right-click the picture and click Format Picture.
- Click the Colors And Lines tab.
- Click the Color list and click No Line.
- Click OK and save the workbook.
Method 2: Resize the Picture in Microsoft Excel 97
To resize the picture, follow these steps:
- Click to select the picture.
- Click and drag one of the fill handles to resize the picture.
