  • Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0

This article was previously published under Q172419

SYMPTOMS

After you set up the Winsock Proxy Client on a Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0, Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0, or Microsoft Windows 95 client computer with Lotus Notes 4.0 Client for 32-bit Operating Systems or Powerbuilder with Native Oracle driver, the client fails to connect with a connection error message.

The following is an example of the error message:
NetWare Client not installed properly.

CAUSE

Powerbuilder with Native Oracle driver or the Lotus Notes 4.0 Client for 32- bit Operating Systems will not work with the Wsock32.dll file that is installed with the Winsock Proxy Client. This is due to incompatibility between the original client operating system Wsock32.dll file and the one installed with the Winsock Proxy Client.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, install the Windows 95 Winsock Upgrade 1.2 OR the Windows 95 Windows Sockets 2 Update for Windows 95 on the Windows 95 client machines.

NOTE: Windows 98 clients will not exhibit this problem since Winsock 2.0 is included with Windows 98. Do not install the updates listed below onto Windows 98 clients.

Both updates are available for download:
