XL97: Page Fault Running Macro That Adds Chart to Worksheet (172258)

In Microsoft Excel 97, if you run a Visual Basic for Applications macro
that is designed to add a chart object to a worksheet, you may receive the
following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you receive an error message similar to the
following:
EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module EXCEL.EXE at
0137:300a825b.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if the Visual Basic macro contains a line of code
similar to either of the following:
ActiveSheet.OLEObjects.Add "Excel.Chart.8"
ActiveSheet.OLEObjects.Add "Excel.Chart"

To add a chart to a worksheet, use code similar to the following:
Set xSheet = ActiveSheet
ActiveWorkbook.Charts.Add
ActiveChart.Location Where:=xlLocationAsObject, Name:=xSheet.Name

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
