PPT97: Upgrading to Service Release 1 Resets Toolbars and Menus (172011)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows Service Release 1 (SR-1)
This article was previously published under Q172011 SYMPTOMS
When you upgrade a PowerPoint 97 installation to PowerPoint 97 Service
Release 1 (SR-1), the PowerPoint toolbars and menus are reset to their
default configurations. Any changes you made to the layout of the toolbars
and rulers are lost.
The Word 97 and Excel 97 menus and toolbars do not reset when you upgrade
to Service Release 1.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs due to changes in the copy of the Powerpnt.exe file
that ships with PowerPoint 97 SR-1. More specifically, the format of the
PCB file, which stores the toolbar and ruler configurations, is different
in PowerPoint 97 SR-1 than in PowerPoint 97.
WORKAROUND
There is currently no workaround for this behavior.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
PowerPoint listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this
problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
