When you enter a telephone number in the Phone Number field of a Contact in
Microsoft Outlook 97, you may see +1
automatically added before the area code of the phone number.
CAUSE
The +1 is the country code for the United States.
RESOLUTION
You can set Outlook so that it automatically enters a +1 in the Phone
Number field as you enter new local and long-distance telephone numbers.
The following method affects all telephone numbers, including fax numbers.
Use the following steps to disable the addition of the country code in new
telephone numbers:
- Start Outlook.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the General tab, click Dialing Options.
- Click to clear the check box to "Automatically add country code to local
phone numbers."
- Click OK, and then OK again to close all dialog boxes.
When you add a new telephone number to a Contact, Outlook will not add the
+1 prefix.
