The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
- Microsoft Excel for Windows 95
This article was previously published under Q171581 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel 97, when you open a Microsoft Excel workbook that
contains a chart, data labels may be moved from the location in which you
positioned them when you last saved the file.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- You create a workbook that contains a chart in Microsoft Excel 7.0.
-and-
- You insert data labels in the chart and change the position of the
data labels.
-and-
- You open the workbook in Microsoft Excel 97.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
MORE INFORMATION
This behavior does not occur for all charts or charts types. For example,
the behavior does not always occur when you use a line chart. The chart
may be moved only slightly when you use a pie chart. However, when you use
a stacked column chart, the chart may be completely repositioned.
Note that in some cases labels may disappear.
