WD97: Spell Checking HTML File with BGSOUND Changes View (171449)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the spelling checker to check an HTML document, Microsoft Word may change the view of the document to Page Layout, and display a sound icon.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when your HTML document contains a background sound.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Change the View

When you view an HTML document, Word uses Online Layout view by default. After you run the spelling checker, click Online Layout on the View menu to return to this view.

Method 2: Remove the Background Sound

Remove the background sound from the HTML document, run the spelling checker, and then re-add the background sound to the document.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word 97 for Windows.
