XL97: Error Message Calculating Custom Function in Formula Bar (171362)

When you calculate a formula in the formula bar by pressing F9, you may
receive the following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you receive an error message similar to the
following:
EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module EXCEL.EXE at
0137:301b7f65.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you do the following:
- You create a custom function in a workbook and save the workbook as a
Microsoft Excel add-in.
-and-
- You enter a formula that uses the user-defined function more than once.
-and-
- You select the cell that contains the formula.
-and-
- You click in the formula bar and press F9.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, install Microsoft Excel 97 Service Release 1
(SR-1).
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 97. This
problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel SR-1.
