FP97: Files Not Created in Root of New Disk-Based Web (170960)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft FrontPage 97 for Windows with Bonus Pack
This article was previously published under Q170960 SYMPTOMS
In FrontPage Explorer, when you create a new disk-based Web, close the Web,
and then reopen it, the default document is not visible in the Root Web.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the content is located in a Sub-Web not the
Root Web. When you create a disk-based web and you fill in the "Web Server
or File Location" AND the "Name of New FrontPage Web" boxes in the New
FrontPage Web dialog box, FrontPage creates both a Root Web and a Sub-Web
and stores the Web content in the Sub-Web. If you enter only a path in the
"Web Server or File Location" box, FrontPage creates only a Root Web.
NOTE: To locate the New FrontPage Web dialog box, point to New on the File menu,
and then click FrontPage Web.
RESOLUTION
To create a Root Web without creating a Sub-Web, use these steps:
- On the File menu, point to New, and then click FrontPage Web.
- Select a template or wizard and click OK.
- In the "Web Server or File Location" box, type the path for the disk-
based web. For example, type the following:
NOTE: This path also corresponds to the name of your Root Web.
Do not type anything in the "Name of New FrontPage Web" box.
- Click OK.
You will be able to view this Web in your Web browser, using an address
similar to the following:
File://C:\NewWeb\Index.htm
