Firewalls can be configured to request a password (sometimes referred to as
a firewall account) independent of the FTP logon sequence, in order to
provide stronger security and to audit traffic going through the firewall.
The Microsoft FTP client echoes the entered gateway password on screen when
connecting to a host across a firewall.
