OL97: Some Fonts Appear as Question Marks Using WordMail (170401)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook 97
- Microsoft Word 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q170401 SYMPTOMS
When you use Microsoft Word 97 as the e-mail editor in Microsoft Outlook 97
and you use the Internet Mail service, messages formatted with certain
fonts may appear as a series of question marks ("???").
RESOLUTION
This only occurs when you are using WordMail. To switch to the Outlook e-
mail editor rather than WordMail, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the E-mail tab, click to clear "Use Microsoft Word as the e-mail
editor," then click OK.
When you compose new messages in Outlook, you can use the same font and it
will display correctly when read.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 97. We
are researching this problem and will post new information here in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
