This article was previously published under Q170207 SUMMARY
With Microsoft Outlook 97's Internet Mail Enhancement Patch (IMEP), you can
install multiple Internet Mail services to handle accounts with multiple
Internet Service Providers (ISPs). This article describes how to specify
the account to be used as the default "From" account in outgoing mail and
how to dictate the order for processing e-mail for these accounts.
MORE INFORMATIONSpecifying the Default From Account
On the Tools menu, click Services then click the Delivery tab. The Internet
Mail services listed here each relate to one of your ISP accounts. You can
move these up and down in the list by clicking on a service then clicking
the UP or DOWN arrow.
The service on the top of the list specifies the default ISP account for
the From field of out-going messages. For instance, if you have ISP
accounts with GTE, AT&T, and Sprint, listed in that order, the From field
of your outgoing mail will be <your account name>@gte.net.
Specifying the Processing Sequence for Incoming and Outgoing Mail
On the Tools menu, click Options then click the E-mail tab. The sequence of
the ISP accounts displayed here determines the order in which they are
accessed for sending and receiving mail when the F5 key is pressed or when
you click, "Check for New Mail" on the Tools menu.
Note: If the default account for sending mail, as defined above, is not
selected on the "Check for New Mail" dialog, mail will remain in the
Outbox.
You must remove and reinstall the services to change the order for
accessing these ISP accounts. The accounts are listed and processed in
reverse order of their installation. If you want to process the example
accounts above in the order of Sprint first, then AT&T, and then GTE, you
must install GTE first, then AT&T, then Sprint.
