SUMMARY

When you install Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0, the Windows Address Book files used by Microsoft Internet Mail and News 1.0 for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 are renamed.

When you install Internet Explorer version 4.0, Microsoft Outlook Express version 4.0 is installed as an upgrade to Internet Mail and News. The following files in the Windows\System or Winnt\System32 folder are renamed:
   File name     Renamed to

   Wabfind.dll   Wabfind.ie3
   Wabimp.dll    Wabimp.ie3
				
The following files in the Windows folder are renamed
   File name        Renamed to
   ------------------------------------------
   Wab.exe          Wab.ie3
   Wabmig.exe       Wabmig.ie3
   <Username>.wab   <path>\<Username>.wab.ie3
				
where <path> is one of the following paths:

  • <windows>\Profiles\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book
  • Program Files\Internet Explorer\Outlook Express\<Username>\Address Book
  • Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Address Book
When the <Username>.wab file is moved and renamed, a new copy of the <Username>.wab file is used by Outlook Express.

Note that the Windows Address Book files are restored if you uninstall Internet Explorer version 4.0.
